Los Angeles - Disney's animated movie Frozen surpassed the 1-billion-dollar mark at the global box office over the weekend, Disney said in a statement.
The movie earned 388.8 million dollars domestically and 611.5 million dollars internationally, according to the statement.
Only18 movies have passed the 1-billion-dollar mark. Avatar (2009), which raked in 2.8 billion dollars, and Titanic (1997), which made 2.2 billion dollars, are the top two, according to boxofficemojo.com.
The first movie to bring in more than 1 billion dollars was Jurassic Park (1993). The latest movie before Frozen to cross that line was Iron Man 3, which passed it just three weeks after being released.
It took Frozen 15 weeks to take in 1 billion dollars at the box office.
The animated movie has yet to play in Japan. It is scheduled to open there March 14.
Frozen received Oscars on Sunday for best original song, Let It Go, and for best animated feature.
