Excise may amend law to raise beer, wine tax
The Excise Department eyes to increase tax on beer and wine, following the excise tax hikes on liquors and sigarettes given a nod by the Cabinet on Wednesday.
"The department is also studying whether to increase tax on beer and wine," said Benja Louichareon, directorgeneral of the Excise Department.
Since the rates have already reached the ceiling rates of 60 per cent of values or Bt100 per litre, so the department must propose the law amendment to the government, she said.
she added that this would be to create fairness for the liqour market and to reduce consumption.
