EC offices in 20 provinces besieged

Election offices in 20 provinces, most of them in the South, have been besieged by anti-government protesters ahead of the advance voting Sunday for the February 2 election, a senior Election Commission (EC) official said Friday.

Puchong Nutrawong, the secretary-general of the EC, said the election agency held a meeting Friday to discuss legal issues that would arise from possible blockade of places designated for advance voting.

Election officials would be advised what to do if there was a blockade in their polling stations, he said.
