The Corrections Department is test-running electronic ankle monitor on 57 child and youth detainees, the department chief said Wednesday.

Her department Wednesday demonstrated the use of ankle monitors at the Government Complex and the event was witnessed by caretaker Justice Minister Chaikasem Nitisiri.

The ankle monitors can put detainees under house arrest and prevent them from entering prohibit zones.

The demonstration showed that the monitor immediately alerted the control centre when a wearer tried to destroy or remove it or enter a prohibited zone or leave his restrict area.
