Chumpol dies at 72
Hospitalised for heart disease in the middle of December, veteran politician Chumpol Silapa-archa passed away today, aged 72.
A younger brother to former prime minister Banharn Silapa-Archa and de-factor leader of the Chartthai Pattana Party, Chumpol served both Abhisit and Yingluck governments as the tourism and sports minister. In the Yingluck government, he also served as a deputy prime minister.
Holding a law degree, he worked as a civil servant and political science lecturer at the Thammasat University, before entering politics in 1979.
