A Channel 5 cameraman was killed in an accident in Nakhon Ratchasima's Sikhiu district Wednesday morning after covering a story on Transport Minister Chadchart Sitthipunt's opening of a road-safety centre on the Mitraparp Highway.
The accident took place on the highway at 10.39am. After covering the centre’s opening, the Channel 5 provincial news crew’s pickup truck pulled over to record footage of traffic conditions ahead of the Songkran Festival when they were rearended by a pickup truck trying to overtake another vehicle on the left.
Cameraman Sunet Thawalee, 41, who was filming in front of the crew’s truck, was crushed against a tree on the side of the road and killed. Seven other people were injured, including Channel 5 reporter Pongsit Wannawichit and assistant cameraman Suriya Panpattarasakul, who were in the news truck.
