Britain's Barclays to cut up to 12,000 jobs

London - British bank Barclays on Tuesday said it was to cut between 10,000 and 12,000 jobs, a day after it announced a fall in underlying annual profits of 32 per cent.



Around 7,000 of the jobs were to be cut in Britain, said the bank, which in total employs around 140,000 people.
On Monday the bank had confirmed that underlying profits for 2013 dropped to 5.2 billion pounds (8.5 billion dollars), slightly below analysts' expectations.
