Army should honour its commitment: Canada
Canada's Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird has expressed concern on the political situation in Thailand and calling the Army to hold on to its commitment.
"We expect the Army to honour its commitment to ensure this is a temporary action only and that Thailand's constitution and democratic institutions and practices will be respected," he said in a statement released today.
It followed the Royal Thai Army’s decision on May 20 to institute martial law in Thailand, "reportedly in order to safeguard public order rather than to overturn elected authorities via a coup".
"Canada remains deeply concerned by the political crisis in Thailand and calls again on all parties to work together to resolve their differences peacefully through dialogue while respecting democratic principles and the rule of law."
