Appeals Court sentences Promppong to one-year imprisonment for defaming former Constitutional Court president

The Court of Appeals Thursday sentenced Pheu Thai spokesman Prompong Nopparit to one year in jail without suspension for having defamed former Constitutional Court president Wasant Sroypisut.

Earlier, the primary court suspended the one-year jail term for two years.

Both the Appeals Court and primary court found Prompong guilty of defaming Wasant related to the Constitutional Court's ruling on the dissolution case against the Democrat Party in 2510. At that time, Wasant was the president of the Constitutional Court.

The Appeals Court reasoned that Prompong had got a doctorate degree and is a special lecturer of several universities so he should have behaved himself instead of defaming a judge, so the court refused to suspend the jail term.
