American Hustle named Best Picture by New York film critics

New York - American Hustle, a comic drama about an FBI mafiasting, was named best picture Tuesday by the New York Film Critics Circle, in one of the first awards of the Oscar season.

The film also garnered best screenplay honours, and a best supporting actress prize for Jennifer Lawrence.

Robert Redford took home the best actor prize for his role in the seafaring yarn All is Lost, while Cate Blanchett was named best actress for her role in the Woody Allen movie Blue Jasmine.

Steve McQueen won the best director prize for his acclaimed movie 12 Yearsa Slave, while the best foreign film was Blue is the Warmest Colour.//DPA
