After 24 hours, no sign of Malaysia Airlines jet

KualaLumpur - A major international search effort continued early Sunday for a China-bound Malaysia Airlines plane carrying 239 people that is feared to have crashed in the South China Sea.

The Boeing 777-200 aircraft vanished early Saturday about an hour after departing Kuala Lumpur headed for Beijing. The airline said it was carrying a total of 227 passengers, including 2 infants, and 12 crew members.

Search and rescue teams from Malaysia, Vietnam, China, Singapore, the United States and the Philippines have been dispatched to the South China Sea, the area flight MH370 should have been travelling over at the time contact was lost.

No wreckage of the aircraft has yet been spotted.
