Acting Senate speaker Surachai Liengboonlertchai announced that the Senate may have to convene a special meeting to select a new prime minister to bring the country out of the political impasse.

Surachai said the PM selection would be carried out under the framework of the Constitution and the ruling tradition and would be based on the principle of participation by all sectors.
