House security panel calls on Science Ministry to test GT200 bomb detectors by Friday
The House committee on security affairs Wednesday called on the Science Ministry to test the controversial GT200 bomb detectors by Friday.
Jehaming Tohtayong, the Democrat MP from Narathiwat and chairman of the panel, said the ministry should speed up the test so that people in the southern border provinces could be assured of their safety.
Jehaming was speaking to reporters after a meeting of the panel. The panel summoned representatives of the Defence Ministry, Science Ministry, Ordnance Department, Provincial Administration Department, and the Army to testify over the efficiency of the bomb detectors.
The MP said the military officials insisted the detectors were effective for detecting bombs as they failed only once or twice of 20 times.
