2 Taiwanese arrested for alleged bank scam

Tourist police have arrested two Taiwanese men for allegedly luring Chinese people to transfer money to some accounts before withdrawing at ATM booths in Pattaaya.

Wang Chen Chieh, 37, and Juan Tai Cheng, 34, were arrested at an ATM machine of Siam Commercial Bank in Pattaya on Thursday, Central Investigation Bureau Commissioner Pol Lt-Gen Thangai Prassachaksattru told a pres conference at the CIB head office Friday.

Police were alerted by the SCB that some foreigners were using ATM cards of a Chinese bank to withdraw money from SCB booths since last month in suspicious manner.

Police found 45 ATM cards on the two and searched their room at the Honey Inn and found 132 more cards. The cards belong to China Union Pay.

Police said the two hired their friends in China to open the accounts and mailed them the ATM cards. They then opened a call centre and lured Chinese people to transfer the money to the accounts and used the cards to withdraw the money in Pattaya.
