Deputy Public Health Minister Manit Nopamornbodhi said the new cases reported Friday raised the country's total number to 1,760.

Twenty of the new flu patients remain in hospital, the minister said, of this number, one patient in Chonburi was being closely monitored as the patient's condition was worsening.

The public health ministry was due to convene a meeting of specialists from state hospitals Friday afternoon to review treatment of new flu patients and assess at-risk groups.

Specialists were to meet Friday to review preventive measures following five fatalities being recorded in Thailand, the minister said.
