Narathiwat - Insurgents shot and injured a senior electricity official and detonated a bomb to injure seven more officials who rushed to check the shooting scene in this southern border province Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the seven Interior Ministry officials, policemen and soldiers were injured when the went to check the shooting scene in front of the Weng District Provincial Electricity office after the office's assistant manager, Decha Promlamda, was shot and injured.

Decha was shot while riding his motorcycle to into the office at 1:40 pm.

The bomb exploded just 5 metres away from the shooting spot.
