Big Clean Day in Phuket Airport

The Airports of Thailand holds the Big Clean Day at Phuket International Airport on Friday in order to prevent spreading of the type A (HiN1) influenza.

Pratheung Sornkum, managing director of Phuket Airport, presided over the event with representatives of foreign airlines and companies that worked in the airport.

Joining the event were Public Health officials who distributed leaflets about the flu and informed airport staffs and tourists on how to use anti-infective fluid.

Prateung said that the Big Clean Day has been done annually to avoid disease infection spread.

"The Big Clean Day project aims at assuring tourists of our high quality preparation towards the type A (H1N1) influenza," said Prateung.

Numbers of passengers at the Phuket Airport dropped 15 to 20 per cent, comparing to last year. It was caused by both global economic crisis and the spread of the flu.

Prateung added that the visiting of Scandinavian and European tourists during July and September would help the airport's business, as Boeing 747 will bring a total 60,000-70,000 passengers at the airport per week.

He added 80,000 of tourists from Shanghai have confirmed the flights in the same period.

Prateung will head to Shanghai and Guangzhou on Saturday, together with officials of Phuket administration, Tourism Authority of Thailand and tourism entrepreneurs to promote tourism in Thailand.
