2,400 police to watch red-shirt rally

The Metropolitan Police plan to dispatch as many as 2,400 officers, with reinforcements from outside Bangkok, to keep law and order during the red shirt's rally Saturday.

Six hundreds of the policemen would be stationed at Sanam Luang, the planned venue for the rally, according to Metropolitan Police commissioner Lt-General Worapong Chiewpreecha.

He expressed confidence that the police would be able to deal with the antigovernment protesters, who were expected to gather in "large numbers", according to police intelligence.
