Chiang Mai - Some 1,000 red-shirted people came out to rally at the provincial hall Monday following the call by former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra for his supporter to rise up against the government.

At 12:30 pm, the number of demonstrators grew to about 1,000.

About 500 of them gathered at the Grand Waroros Hotel and marched to the hall in the morning.

Their leaders said the demonstrators would raid the hall if police use force against the protesters in Bangkok.
