
A media advocate reminded the government Thursday it had no mandate to shut down community radio stations - that power was vested only in the broadcasting regulator, the National Telecommunications Commission.
Supinya Klangnarong was replying to remarks by PM's Office Minister Sathit Wongnongtaey, who threatened to close rogue stations for airing programmes deemed to sow divisiveness and insult the monarchy.
Supinya said the Constitution and relevant laws banned the government from interfering with broadcasting media outlets.
