Chiang Rai - The provincial administration Monday declared 18 districts in this northern province as cold-spell disaster zone to speed up assistance worth Bt50 million to the poor in need of warm clothing.

Suthep Dejchaisri, chief disaster prevention and mitigation officer of Chiang Rai, said the districts have been being hit by cold spell with temperature lower than 13 degree for several days so the provincial administration announced the disaster zone for the districts.

The announcement permitted the provincial administration to seek a budget of Bt50 million to help the poor.
