Boonjong denies involvement in egg pelting in Buri Ram

The Friends of Newin faction had no involvement in the egg pelting incident that saw red-shirt crowds attacking red-shirt speakers during a campaign rally in Buri Ram on Wednesday, Deputy Interior Minister Boonjong Wongtrairat said Thursday.

Redshirt leaders, including Jatuporn Prompan and Natthawut Saikua, were hit with eggs thrown by their Pheu Thai supporters while making campaign speeches to sway votes for the party's candidate Chamras Wiangsong who is contesting the January 11 by-election.

The crowds started to get agitated by booing after Jatuporn and Natthawut had taken a swipe at faction leader Newin Chidchob who was a founder of the red-shirt movement but has distanced himself after switching loyalty to the Democrat-led coalition.
