Yala - Insurgents detonated a bomb planted in a garbage dump site near a school in this southern border province Wednesday morning, injuring a policeman.

Pol Sgt Krissana Sukhom, 38, was injured by the impact but was not hit by shrapnel. He was rushed to the Yala Provincial Hospital.

Police said the explosion occurred at 8:15 am near the Ban Talad Lammai School in Muang district.

Krissana was walking past the garbage site and insurgents detonated the homemade bomb with a remote control.
