 Obama Inauguration

I realize this is a Thai political forum, but have begun to see a lot of coverage of the Obama Presidency in the Thai media. I'm interested to know just how Thais feel about the change in the American administration.

Please don't denegrate the conversation to a Bush/Cheney bashing session. I'd truly like to get a sense of what folks think the impact, if any, the new administration might have on Thai and world politics.

You asked us, how we, Thai, feel about Obama's Administration and I'll share with you some of my views.

On 26 Jan 09 Timothy Geithner was confirmed as Treasury Secretary on 60-34 Vote. Most of us know, it was a very lengthy and complicated process, as far as he was concerned.

Inspite of his flimsy excuses.... how he overlooked to pay tax on monies received from IMF when he was employed by them, Obama and the Senaters supported him. Why ? The answer is obvious, that's because the country needed his service desperately to solve the Financial crises.

Time will reveal if USA have made a right decision and the world is watching very closely, and so is Thailand, as all of us depend alot on USA's Economic success.

The moral of the story is...........Sometimes, we've to bite the bullet and tolerate the person who have become Public Servant. Can't be helped.

"KABUL, Afghanistan – President Hamid Karzai condemned a U.S. operation he said killed 16 Afghan civilians, while hundreds of villagers denounced the American military during an angry demonstration Sunday."

Changes? looks like same old crap to me, it is just being done by a black guy this time, that's all.

Bomb Obama Bomb.

Bush's bomb is bad.

Obama's bomb is good, he can do no wrong.

He is the commander in chief and can stop or start the bombing at anytime he wishes.

The world is cheering for him.

From the president's inaguration speech:

"To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history".

#10, Moo,

Agree that the yellow dress was nice. However, CNN went gagas over the white one. They're still ranting about it, and this poster still thinks it looks more like a toga. IMO, a pair of jeans and T-shirt would have looked better.

Remember, I'm just a mere landscaper.

Amos, I wouldn't read BLACK into everything. In reality, he's mixed race. I've spent a lot of time in the US as well and I feel his campaign pushed the fact that he was black rather than mixed race, so that they could bring out the Black vote. Nothing wrong with that it's politics.

The thing that may be very good is that he has spent part of his life offshore in a predominant Muslim country as well as some time in Africa. Hopefully he learned something from this experience and just maybe he will look at things and people a bit differently and allow a dialog with groups and countries that to this point has not been possible.

Get real. Obama is a ONE TERM SENATOR! He has accomplished nothing. He is a career politician who has filled his administration with Chicago cronies, Israeli citizens, Clinton-ites, and hold overs from Bush's administration. He is not only NOT going to change anything Bush has done - but he fully plans on expanding upon it. In Iraq, in Afghanistan, in Pakistan, and in Iran - the banker bailouts and the deepening of the global depression causes by banker elites swindling us of our wealth and freedom WORLDWIDE.

America is about to face a nightmare decades in the making, "dragged down the long, dark, and shameful corridors of time reserved for those who possess power without compassion, might without morality, and strength without sight" Martin Luther King warned us about. And all nations that entangle themselves with America, including Thailand, shall be dragged with it.

How Obama thought because he is black he is automatically entitled to cling to MLK's coattails is the final betrayal of King's memory by the US government.

Congratulations USA. You have elected a Great President. As a commoner, I pray for God's Hand to be upon Obama's head and Bless him with Knowledge and understanding of knowledge and Strength to carry them out.

As a Good Friend of Thailand, through Good times and Bad times, I'm confident, under Obama's Presidency, Thailand's and USA's Friendship will rise to Greater Heights.

His Inuaguration speech was prepared by himself and it came straight from his heart that's why it was really emotional. Yes, some business news presenters may criticize him for making no mention of solving economic crises but then haven't we heard him saying enough of that in the past couple of days.

As long as he remains Humble, Sincere, Honest, Peace Loving, Hardworking and Fair, he'll always be my idol.

GOD Bless Thailand, USA and the whole World.

Ray I thought her dress in the morning was OK it was a Cuban designer, wonder if that says anything if you read between the lines. The night dress, Toga is giving it a bit, it looked matronly.

Probably most Colin.

Today I did a montage starting with part of King's " I have a dream" speech going into JFK's "Let us never negotiate out of fear. But let us never fear to negotiate" and then the last minute and a bit of Obana's address. It came out really well, the thing that's even more distinctive than the words is the distinctiveness of each of their voices.

According to CNN, the highlight of the inauguration is Michelle's dress. For the past three hours, they have ranted and raved about how beautiful it is. The "talking heads" are saying that her dress represents the future of fashion.

The dress looks like a TOGA.

not to insult

America leased your land durning Vietnam conflict

but its a pleasure reading your feelings are like mine of American and Thailand's love for each other.

Not only the united states but most important is the love of Thailand from the people of America

Thailand is my brother country

similar to thailande and laos connections of the khmer people

(not meaning of governments but people)

Im blessed to be part of both words .American born but wife of Thailand by birth.

We in the US have never seen anything like this. All of Hollywood 'A' list in Wash. DC ...3 days of concert and parties. Reminds me of China's coming out party at the 2008 Olympics. America's "We are One" concert free on HBO loaded with superstars. Don't know if it's brainwashing or true freedom. In economic hard times I prefer entertainment and celebration over depression any day of the week. Impressive as good as it gets.
