PAD "political concerts" begin in Chon Buri, why?

PM Abhisit said his government will promote reconciliation by enforcing the rule of law. One could only hope he meant the PAD's leaders would be charged with criminal and civil offenses.

So far, we've only seen mention of a civil suit to recover 18 million THB in damages to government house. There is still deep anger among many voters from all parties who have seen people allied with former PM Thaksin charged and tried to the fullest extent of the law. And yet the PAD leaders who siezed and occupied GH and the 2 airports are not only walking free, but now on a nationwide tour?

The international community does not want to offend their Thai friends, but privately they are all laughing at the ongoing hypocrisy of having 2 properly elected PMs convicted of "major" crimes while the PAD goes free. Mr. Abhisit please keep your promise and fix this mess.

Hi Chaiyo Thailand,

You should not flatter me too much or they will think you are the poster sitting right beside me. :)

I am also a businessman and I spend most of my days searching for news, mostly business and economy related because it is so necessary for my work. I go to bed after 2 AM. because I watch CNBC and Bloomberg 3-4 hours every night. And as you say, even that is not enough.

In this Financial meltdown, every country is trying to experiment something or the other to help the poor. Why not give some time to this action and hear the feedbacks from taxi drivers a couple of weeks or months later. If the policy doesn't work it can easily be withdrawn.

Sometimes we lose penny to gain pound. One never knows until we try.

Hi Twilight Zone

I'm not trying to flatter you but I must say that your reply # 59 is nothing but the TRUTH. Well written.

I spend about three hours daily to make researches (going through NY Times, AWSJ, Financial Times and several internet webs) for my business and I still feel I've alot more to do because I still make mistakes. LOLOLOL

And my point is.............Yes, you're right, Twilight Zone, we should not rely solely on ASTV for informations but try to get from as many sources as possible worldwide.

There are lots and lots of informations worldwide but not enough time to get them all.

Kingkong,

May be they just don't have any brain?

To counter your arguement, not that I disagree with you..

the govt can always argue that by reducing the fare by 5 baht, it can increase the number of taxi usage thus increasing the overall revenue for the taxi drivers with a small 5 baht sacrafice per passenger.

Although I doubt that reducing 5 baht will change the consumer behavior since many of the taxi users are well-off but most if not all the people I know will give generous tips that 'hopefully' over shadows the 5 baht loss.

So I guess this won't be benefitial to anyone but the govt.. who will claim they are working so hard to help the people by coming up with such an effective project.

Yes, you are correct. Now, more than ever everyone needs to see current events from all sides, apply facts and normal logic. When political discussions turn to violence then the day is lost.

A message to the current government of PM Abhisit and the PAD; please move beyond your fixation with former PM Thaksin. He's been gone for over 2 years.

The best way to move forward is to do a better job, that is your challenge. Are you up to it?

In agreement with #42, its apparent that we are in a state of denial. The figures are there for all to see. The ministers are all moping in the dark trying to revive the economy and to help the poor. These are third tier prawnbrain candidates after the previous quality proven ministers have been sent to early retirement by the military backed judiciary. This is how they try to help the poor. This piece of reporting I read the other day; Taxi fare reduced by five bahts for every pickups. WTF, Who are the poor, Taxi driver or the affordable passenger? Common, the poor takes the bus. Imagine the taxi picks up 20 passenger a day, he looses 100bts. Thats alot to him, but each rich passenger benefit 5bts. Now, You tell me are those people at the top, prawnbrain or birdbrain? THis is a neutral observer.

Hi Chaiyo Thailand,

I think the problem here is some people get their information solely from ASTV. That is why they don’t even know what has been happening in the outside world. They have been constantly exposed to one-sided, pre-packaged propaganda and have lost their ability to view the situation analytically.

This is demonstrated by the fact that no matter how I tell them I don’t have to be red to criticize the PAD’s action, they still come back and say I am red. These people also think that they have the right to cause damage because they believe Thaksin caused damage. Somehow the absurdity of this logic is completely lost to them. Sigh!

-- "The video clips depicting the red side being shot in the back and died, the yellow PAD guards shooting wildly at taxi drivers and innocent bystanders, the armed guards toting rifles and handguns, the homemade spears impaling a police officer, the tv van being shot at, the police being harassed and having the police truck’s tires slashed, the man being chased down and beaten up"

If you have a link please feel free to post them, i would appreciate it a lot.

This is a joke right? You just came back and don’t know any detail but are writing in here based on what you see or don’t see on youtube?

Everything I have described was shown nationally on all tv channels. The newspaper all reported the same things in their newspapers. I am not going to do the research for you, but it won’t be too hard to find.

You asked me what the red side is protesting about? I don’t know. I just don’t see them wrecking the whole country for their cause, stupid or not. That is why I don’t care.

Do I think they want to bring back Thaksin? Go back to read all of my posts. I don’t think he can come back without getting arrested at the airport. I also never said he was a good man for Thailand. Guilty or not, I don’t know. I will let the court decide. If he is tried fairly and found to be guilty, I want him to go to jail.

Then “you tell me” what the PAD’s protest is about? New Politics? What the hell is “New Politics” anyway? I have been asking the same question for the past 3 months and nobody can tell me. Can you? I don’t think so since you “just came back”.

My concern is the PAD has created so much damage to Thailand, and all for nothing. That is why I am writing in here. You want me to write about the red side killing one or two guys? I am not going to write about it because I am not a reporter and the incident didn’t cause damage to the whole country. That is why I never care what the red side is doing. The PAD did cause damage. And if you can’t tell because you can’t see the difference, then it is your problem. Go check in the mirror if you have the ability to tell what is right and wrong.

For now just get off the youtube as your source of news because the world is not in there.

Once you know the facts, then get back to me.

So what are the red shirts protesting for anyway?? Getting Dr Thaksin back? They doing it in a rather violently way don't you think? Im happy to see they are less violent than before. lets just hope the reds or pad dont do anything stupid like suicide bombings.

The Dr. Thaksin, the best corrupted PM. We are all patient, we want him back in Thailand to go to prison, because he has been convicted and is now a fugitive. However, he is not coming back, he wants Thai justice from overseas..5555, and he barks from places like either India or Arab countries. I don't think western countries will listen to him. England gave the example.

Sam,

You caught me! I confess that I am a low IQ English major university student paid to write propaganda against the PAD.

You see, we sit in this computer room with 4 other posters. We are paid 100 or 200 baht per post depending on the length of the post. We get special bonus of 50 baht if our posts are biting and believable. On our free time when we can’t think of what else to write, we write posts supporting each other’s posts to make it more credible. This money is sorely needed to support my “education”. I am just afraid that if I remain “uneducated” and stupid, they won’t let me vote next time.

I know deep in my heart that the PAD never did anything wrong, but we are provided with a script of what to write and some badly made video clips accusing the yellow side. The video clips depicting the red side being shot in the back and died, the yellow PAD guards shooting wildly at taxi drivers and innocent bystanders, the armed guards toting rifles and handguns, the homemade spears impaling a police officer, the tv van being shot at, the police being harassed and having the police truck’s tires slashed, the man being chased down and beaten up were all badly made home movies directed by some idiotic farang Hollywood director. These clips were paid to be made by the previous governments to discredit the peaceful PAD movement. All the homemade bombs were obviously planted there to make the PAD look violent which I know is not at all true.

I confess that what I saw was just fun and game at the airports. Even our highly revered FM agreed that “The food and drinks were good and the music was excellent”. It was actually the AOT’s fault of closing it down. Those idiotic airport workers and immigration official just all ran away at the same time because they were told in advance to do so to discredit the PAD. Even the PAD guards went up the control tower just to ask if they could be of any help. With all the planes landing, they could be short of “experienced” air traffic controllers. All the tourists were given food and water. How much kinder and gentler treatment do they want? This only shows to the world how good our people are to the foreigners.

You want me to write about the red side? I admit I can’t write without a script or somebody telling me what to write. I only know that the red side is mostly poor stupid people paid by my boss to come out to cause trouble. I am sure they are much worse than the PAD. I can see their barbaric act of throwing eggs and stones at all the angelic politicians they don’t like. I also saw on NBT how they were stupid enough to come out in the tens of thousands to fill up the two stadiums but just went home. They could have stayed on to enjoy the free food and drinks for a few months to show their patriotism but they didn’t. What fools!

I also have to admit that I was stupid to question this “New Politics”. Of course the PAD needs to be praised for granting us with this gift. Now we have a bright, young Obamark running our country with the close aid of that highly honorable Suthep Theuksuban. Even the Khmer witch doctor has given this new government his blessing. We even have a bright, young, energetic, beautiful and highly experienced Commerce Minister helping us in this time of economic hardship. What about the other Ministries such as Interior and Communication falling in the capable hands of the Newin family? And to see the government doing magic tricks of pulling money out of thin air to give to all of us poor stupid people. A feat that would shame even David Copperfield. Wow! How wrong and stupid could I be?

Sam, I admit I am an idiot and can’t think for myself. But if you want me to write something bad about these barbaric red fools, you will have to show me your script too. I promise I will help you write about them and share with you my income. By the way, what is the going rate for a post against the red side or my boss now? My boss is reportedly broke and can’t pay me now. :(

It is nice that you can laugh BangkokRay! It will take a long time for the court to get to the PAD's case. It took so long for the court to finish Thaksin's land deal, that just one case, and many cases against him still to come. So, keep on laughing BangkokRay, your wish will come through someday, your laughing makes my day. What a humble guy!

Damage done to tourism.... ? We are in a global recession that is about to turn into a global depression. People are losing their jobs, their retirement funds are being robbed by bankers, and the military is preparing to take to the streets in many Western countries - in Iceland they are already having riots. I really doubt these people are going to be taking vacations to Thailand any time soon.

The longer you stay in denial about the real cause of these problems the longer it will be before you come to any viable solution.

#26 there is no rule of law or democracy. PAD's only reason for existing and the only reason so many people went out to protest was to get rid of Thaksin. They weren't backing the Democrats - and Thais learned a long time ago you've got to take to the streets to get anything done.

If Americans had learned that 8 years ago they might not have lost 4,500 + soldiers and be on the brink of the greatest economic collapse in human history. They might also have stopped a banker heist of 8.5 trillion dollars!!! Imagine what the streets of Bangkok would look like if they passed a "bailout" on the backs of tax payers.

I know - I can't imagine it either because the government knows they would never get away with it. The government is supposed to fear the people - and they don't fear people that "respect" the rule of law (law they can arbitrarily change whenever it suits them) or democracy (where you get your choice of A: Rich, lobbyist supporting elitist, or B: Rich, lobbyist supporting elitist.)

But other than that, excellent argument!!!

As a true supporter of thaksin piece has always come up with one-sided comments. Before on the Nation forum/poll and now on this webboard. One-sided comments and now leading subjects on the webboard that do not achieve anything but to maintain the devisiveness and continuation of the attempts to resurrect thaksin. As though you are a webmaster you agree fervently with posters who denigrate the oppostition abd support debilitating devisiveness.

Get over it piece, 3ps and now peau thai (thaksin) have lost the impetus and right to govern in Thailand’s parliamentary system. A system that was wholeheartedly accepted by samak and somchai and 3ps. You wish for justice actions of the recent past but as usual forget about calling for justice of occurrences that happened over two years ago. And what about jakrapop’s charges of Lese Majeste why haven’t you requested for quick action in this case also?

You are a hypocrite who tries to use thaksin’s brand of half truths and true lies to sway opinion.

And 3ps and now peau thai (thaksin) are crudely 'red'.

Although I'd want to agree with you, I seriously doubt the PAD will blow the whistle if the Abhisit government's corruption supports the PAD group. They just came to power less the one month, they deserve a chance to prove what they can do. This is why the Russians had been very careful with NGOs and foriegn intruders , Jewish capitalists , who were trying to invade and divide Russia .

Thai government should live by rules and laws by protecting their country or else one day ..just like how USSR , North and South Koreans, North vietname and south vietnams ..divided . Hey piece; what about the charges of mob violence against jakrapop, nattawut, chatuporn and veera when they lead the mob action in front of Pa Prem’s house? Many police officers were hurt then. You do remember that incident don’t you? Why haven’t you asked for quick justice in that case also? It’s been many many months now and no movement or action has been taken. The police will charge PAD when their investigations are completed. Do you want ‘justice’ to be rushed? It would seem that you are really asking for a “red-shirted” form of ‘kangaroo court’.

Let the justice system work it out themselves. There’s still lots of cases and charges against thaksin that you should also request be given fair and unbiased court time.

If anyone is on doubt of the damage that has been done to the Thai tourism industry, suggest that you make a few phone calls to hotels and or tour agencies.

New Years Eve the Sheraton Grande was offering rooms for 2,009 Baht, a rather large discount. Shangrila and Oriental both had one wing completely closed and several restaurants closed as well In fact the Sheraton was offering room service and coffee shop only service.

Several of my friends are small hoteliers in Koh Samui, they were telling me that 8-12% occupancy was the norm over the usual 99% peak season.

It is unreasonable to lay all the blame for this situation at the feet of the PAD-UDD situation here. The world is in a recession, the likes of which has not been seen since the 1930's so obviously tourism is down everywhere. However, in a shrinking market the bad publicity and negative image creation is going to impact the tourism industry.

One German business traveler I recently spoke to said that the ticket agent in Frankfurt asked him several times if he really wished to buy a ticket "to a country which is so unstable and potentially dangerous".

Whoever is going to be the PM Apisit, Taksin, Somchai or Santa Claus, needs to find a way to get the positive image that Thailand has enjoyed for so long. And you know what? They need to do it now.

Concur, a well written post. If this sort of logic and understanding of facts was undertaken by all sides it would go long way toward the reconciliation PM Abhisit has promised.

The same old propaganda from both camps now seems stale and an impediment to moving forward. Working with facts will be the first step for all to heal.

May the PM's policy of reconciliation, application of law and order, and political amnesty be applied fairly with the goal of true healing.
