 censorship of the Internet

I was very disappointed to read from my ISP (Internet Thailand) that they have now started to censor certain websites from 1st March. This is of course under pressure from the govt. Thailand hereby looses its status as a beacon of democracy in Asia and follows an authritarian path of countries like communist China. A tragic development for all of us.

The censorship of the internet seems politically motivated. That is, if the business interests of Thai's are threatened then the authorities will move to censor or ban. There is a recently published book called VERISIMILITUDE by Harry Nicolaides. It criticises the Crown Prince for his extra-marital affairs. There si even a web link to the book and story: http://www.akha.org/content-447.html. This , for whatever reason is not censored.

Which sites censored according to your claim? Al Qaida ones? Other horrible ones like those? What, you could not view beheading videos with cries of allah wakbar? Oh yes, shame on ISP for "censoring!"

Sad to say but Thailand has not been a beacon of Democracy. Ever since Constitutional Monarchy was introduced, military coups have seized power by force and only recently have Civilians starting getting into power thru votes. Military still have members in the government.

The beauty is that Thailand has been able to keep a sense of democracy even thru all these military dictatorships.

You failed to mention what kind of sites are banned. USA bans child pornography sites for example. There must be COME control. Freedom does not mean total chaos. Something that had to be explained to the newly freed iraqis who were looting.

Disappointed, you may not be entirely right. They posted your thread, didn't they? In some countries, like Singapore,, China and Saudi Arabia, such statements would have hardly crossed the first hurdle, So be thankful you're in Thailand. I know of a superpower who preached democracy to the entire world but after 9/11 they have fallen way behind the very countries they have condemned. Need I say more?

Indeed an intelligent man he is, the evil emperor am I referring to... Can no longer the evil forces of the dark side enter the Kingdom... Maybe next he will start burning books in public gatherings and after that perhaps he will start disposing of evil insurgents... Man, Yoda is dearely needed here, NOW!!!

If the PM and his silly cronies were doing everything by the book, why do they need to suffocate the voices that scratch behind the wall???

CEO? I guess Thailand has a CEO instead of a PM=) Thats kinda funny... If he wants to bring Thailand out of depression, recession, whatever, maybe he should just fire some 30 million people from his company=) That'll cut down at least 50% of his problems, the sick, the poor and the weak... Way to go, you physically incapable-money does everything-degenerate.

I wonder what Mr Thaksin would do if he had an educated work force and nation, who would actually see behind all of his silly tricks, conjured up only to disguise his real traits...

According to freedom of press in the constitution, the government will be legally liable if it is interfering or censoring the media.

The constitution court should do something about this. Thai people should start supporting the court and keep our democratic voice untouched.

Your posting is considered as destructive critic. You don't understand the wise thinking of our CEO, he will protect all his people from the evil coming from abroad.
