ASEAN TV has been established to herald the closer regional integration of the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015. The new television station will act as the eyes, ears and voice for the 600 million people of all 10 ASEAN countries, helping bring the people, cultures and traditions of ASEAN closer together through news, entertainment and sports programming and linking the unified ASEAN region with the rest of the world. ASEAN TV is an English language station covering politics, economics, society, culture, entertainment, tourism, sports and more. The station came on air for the first time on June 21 and aims for full 24-hour air-time by October of this year. The station currently offers a full programming schedule covering news, current affairs and breaking issues. ASEAN TV recently became the first station in Thailand to provide live English language coverage of the Thai general election. The new ASEAN media channel is a joint cooperation between MCOT Pcl. and Nation Broadcasting Corporation Plc. (NBC),in conjunction with The Nation and Thai News Agency. The alliance combines the strengths of the largest media network in Thailand with expert news media like NBC and The Nation. NBC is also allied with the Asia News Network (ANN) with members in 18 regional countries.
