NLD won't withdraw over lack of charter change: Suu Kyi
Opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi has vowed that even if the Constitution is not amended to allow her to run for president in the 2015 elections, her National League for Democracy (NLD) will continue to engage in the political process for the sake of the country.
"As for issues such as what the NLD will do should the Constitution not be amended before 2015, I have always said that I don't believe in closed-door countries, only open-door countries. So, from now on we [the party] will never say we will not do this or that. We are an open-door organisation. Whatever the issue, we [the NLD] will never do anything if our doors are closed. We will open our doors till the end. We will go the best way for the sake of the country," she said.
She added, however, that she was very hopeful the Constitution would be amended with support from every side, in line with the will of the people Everyone should make real efforts for its amendment, rather than just hoping for change to take place, said Suu Kyi.
