Throughout the year we’ve probably all been busy with our own preoccupations – with life, work and study. But with the long holiday approaching, besides giving ourselves a special big treat, let’s use this joyful occasion to share some love and happiness with others.

Flood victims

1 Princess Pa Foundation, Thai Red Cross Society
What they do:
Collect donated belongings, consumables and money to help those suffering from flooding in the North of Thailand.

2 Khon Khon Khon Fund by TV Burapha Co Ltd

What they do:
Help reconstruct school buildings, canteens, libraries and toilets at Wat Boon Kerd School in Angthong, Wat Dok Mai School in Sing Buri, and Wat Kra Dong Thong School in Ayutthaya.

How to help:

Underprivileged children
1 Foundation for Children
What they do:
Help underprivileged children by giving them a proper education and the basic requirements in life, as well as protecting the rights of children and preventing them from being abused by adults.

How to help:
Donate consumable items such as unsweetened milk, eggs, detergent, diapers, notebooks, pencils and erasers in person at the Foundation for Children, 95/24 Moo 6 Soi Kiat Ruammitra, Buddha Monthon 4, Sam Pharn, Nakhon Pathom 73220.

2 Saeng Tien Group Foundation

What they do:
Give education, provide food and teach morals and ethics to orphans and underprivileged and poor children. There are now 2,102 youngsters aged between two and 24 with the foundation.

How to help:
Donate belongings and consumables such as food, clothing, soap, sport equipment, stationery and second-hand items.

3 Group of volunteer teachers from www.bannok.com

What they do:
Teach children, mostly from the Akha, Lahu and Mien hilltribes, living in rural areas of Tambon Mae Yao, Chiang Rai.

How to help:
Donate your used student and scout uniforms (for boys or girls), scarves, caps, belts and shoes. Uniforms with names and school names on them are also acceptable.

Environment

1 Sueb Nakasathien Foundation 
What they do:
Work to promote the preservation of the environment and natural resources, and to save and protect wild life. The foundation is divided into five funds: the Sueb Nakasathien Fund, for natural-resource and environmental preservation; the Forest Rescue Fund, for the families of forest rescue officials injured or killed during operations; the Wild Animal Fund, for research to prevent the extinction of wild animals and plants; the Sueb Nakasathien Monument Fund, for public-relations work; and the Western Forest Preservation Fund, for the better management of 17 wildlife sanctuaries and national parks in western Thailand.

How to help:
Buy souvenirs made from the foundation at shops such as Baan Rai Cafe or KSC Internet.

2 Wildlife Fund Thailand under the Royal Patronage of HM the Queen of Thailand

What they do:
Invite and encourage people to help manage and be aware of environmental issues in Thailand, through studies conducted under Wildlife Fund Thailand projects.

How to help:

Animal welfare

1 Foundation for Stray Dogs
What they do:
Fight to improve animal welfare, particularly for stray dogs on the streets of Bangkok; cure and give them temporary shelter, rabies and flea vaccinations and medical baths; train them to become security dogs and watchdogs, or send them to the police department for official use as K9s; train volunteers for stray-dog projects; and promote human understanding and responsibility towards animal welfare.

How to help:
Foster a dog. Pay a visit to the Foundation for Stray Dogs at Wat Thung Khru, No 9, Moo 5, Soi Pracha-U-tid 84, Thung Khru district, Bangkok 10140.
Make a monthly donation for dog food.

2 Friends of the Asian Elephant Foundation

What they do:
Provide elephants in captivity with a better life until they can adjust themselves within a real natural environment, and help people such as raisers, researchers and veterinarians whose work relates to elephants.

Those living with HIV/Aids, and the disabled

1 The Thammarakniwet Housing Project of Wat Phra Baht Nam Phu by Phra Kru Alongkot Phonlamuk
What they do:
Give free shelter, food and treatment to those living with HIV/Aids, including infected children, as well as providing cremation for those who die of Aids. The Lop Buri temple also serves as a centre for education and information on the disease. Currently, more than 1,000 HIV patients stay at the centre.

How to help:

2 The Camillian Social Centre, Rayong

What they do:
Support seven projects in the Southeast in palliative care, childcare and prevention, via a network of people with HIV/Aids, a self-sustaining community, scholarships for affected orphaned children, and a centre for HIV-positive orphaned teenagers.

How to help:

Apply to be a volunteer. Both locals and foreigners are needed to assist in all aspects of daily life, from teaching children, to giving comfort and support to the residents. Volunteers may need to help with agricultural chores, or take those needing medical attention to local hospitals.

3 Thai Disabled Development Foundation

What they do:
Protect the rights of and rehabilitate disabled people in terms of social, cultural, medical, educational, job, sport and recreational activity. They also promote research and news relating to and of benefit to the disabled.

How to help:
Apply as a volunteer to help those with physical disabilities, hearing or sight impairment, brain disorders or autism, by downloading an application form at www.tddf.or.th. Others

1 The Mirror Foundation (Krajok Ngao Foundation)
What they do:
Search for missing people, especially children deceived into working as prostitutes and beggars, and return them to their homes.

How to help:

2 Hangdong Sangkarat Upatham School

What they do:
Give free education in both general and religious subjects for Buddhist monks and novices, so that they are better able to understand what is going on in the world and can effectively pass on that knowledge to believers. The school in Chiang Mai also accepts underprivileged children for study after they enter the monkhood, thus increasing the number of monks.

3 Baan Kanchanaphisek Detention Centre

What they do:
Provide therapy for youths who have been sent to the centre after making mistakes in life. The centre aims to get such youngsters back on the right track, so that they can live happily in society and not become criminals.

How to help:
Ink print cartridges or computer tools to be used in the training of youths can be donated at Baan Kanchanaphisek Detention Centre, 103 Moo 2, Tambon Khlong Yong, Buddhamondhol sub district, Nakhon Pathom 73170.
