    From reading to listening
    As an academic and as a columnist, I associate thinking mostly with the written word. I read books and articles, and I write for readers. I listen to music, not to the spoken word. And the columns I write – unlike the editorials I used to write for television – are meant to be read, not heard.

    Why idolise a man with such a low regard for the truth? 
    It is obvious from reading letters to The Nation that several readers are fully behind President Trump. My simple question to those people is, how do you ignore his passion for telling lies so gross and obvious that any schoolkid would be ashamed at their transparency.
