EC receives ballot papers
Published on February 6, 2005
The Thai postal service has already sent ballot papers from advance voting in Thailand and abroad to the Election Commission of Thailand (EC) in order that they can be counted alongside the ballot papers from the main election today, a senior Thai Post official announced.
Wuthiphong Mophichat, the deputy director of Thai Post Co, said almost 190,000 boxes of ballot papers for both party-list and constituency votes had been passed on to the EC.
Thai Post has mobilised several hundred officials to 24-hours day at the election liaison centre. This does not include the 2,000 officials performing duties nationwide, Wuthiphong said.
The operation began on February 3, when Thai Post sent ballot papers to EC officials across the country, with the last remaining papers reaching parts of the country's north-eastern region on Saturday.
Over the past week, the organisation has sent over 47 million ballot papers to EC officials in the country's 400 electoral constituencies.
The liaison centre will be officially closed Sunday evening once all the ballot boxes have been sealed up.
