Published on February 6, 2005
Thai voters throughout the country headed to polling stations on Sunday for a general election which was expected to give Thaksin Shinawatra another four-year term in power. After casting ballot with his three children in Bangplad, Thaksin also predicted a turnout of about 70 percent.
Suwat Liptapanlop, Thai Rak Thai party-list candidate was confident that his party would sweep to victory and Thaksin would certainly be Thailand's prime minister again.
"I feel so confident that my party will win. A lot of people stream to the polling stations today and that's a very good sign for Thai political system. I believe that it will get better and there will be no dirty politics," said Suwat.
Opinion polls suggest Thai Rak Thai party will win as many as 350 out of the 500 seats in parliament.
