Sharing confidences in Bed
The popular club engages in pillow talk with a new gay party night every Sunday
Bed Supperclub is inviting you to a new party where "nobody has to know". The new gay night, Confidential Sunday, was officially launched last Sunday with lots of booze and beautiful boys.
The launch party opened the door to invited guests from 8pm, and pampered them with free flow Grey Goose cocktails and Singha beers. The highlight of the party included the contemporary khon performance "18 Monkeys". Inspired by the "Ramayana", the tantric performance recounted the dilemma between duty and friendship of the main characters, Kasorntamala and Mungornkan who took an oath of friendship for life and yet had to fight in the battle between Rama and Tossakan.
That often, the hypedup crowd became even more excited as the "ultimate highlight" of the night was announced. A few minutes later the club's White Room was invaded by muscled topless models showcasing Amart's underwear, accompanied by celebrity female models in flamboyant dresses. Predictably, the hunks received overwhelming attention and loud screams while the glamorous girls managed just a few cheers from their supฌportive friends.
And predictably, again, the crowd started the leave the venue right after the fashion show to party the rest of the night elsewhere.
Bed Supperclub is probably the first and to date the only club of its scale to hold a gay night. Years back, they were holding the "Think Pink" parties on Sunday nights with gayfriendly tunes, several shows with hunky men and chicks in skimpy outfits and bringing the night to a climax at the witching hour with a drag performance. At one point "Think Pink" was a very popular party, as the club had American drag artist Candi Staton putting on her signature Cher performance every week. When Staton left the building, the gay clubbers also left to hang out on Silom Soi 2 where drag shows, cheaper booze and companions can be found every single night.
The second attempt was a gay-friendly party also on Sundays, titled "Sunday is the New Saturday" where resident DJs played commercial hiphop, funk, disco and even dancehall. Unfortunately the party didn't have enough appeal to steal the gay clubbers back from Silom Soi 2 and Sunday soon became the quiet night for the famous club.
The latest attempt with the Confidential party, with its tag line "nobody has to know", is tending to be more upscale and to target the "confidential" crowd rather than regular gay clubbers. A party with "eclectic mix of debauched naughtiness, chic beats and riotous revellers", the flyer professes, is a "quintessential experience of a truly unique and ultra flamboyant party." Planned for the next sessions are monthly fashion shows from local and international brands, contemporary performances, "exotic" dances and the inevitable celebrity birthday bashes. The music tone is set to deep house, '70s, '80s, '90s and funky house.
In Bed Supperclub's album of the launch party on Facebook, the club tagged some guests with black stripes across their faces, as if to stress the point that it's confidential. Positioning itself as a swanky clubs where celebrities and the social elite hang out, mostly to be seen, it seems out of concept for the club to host such secret, hush-hush parties. While there's nothing new in the concept, we can only hope that every little feature and details of the party will make it at least a decent one, if not a full-fledged, sensational gay party.
It seems hard to have a successful gay party in a city with such a massive gay population, and all credit to Bed Supperclub for constantly trying.
"If it's a gay party, we either like it dirty or glamorous," said one clubber at the launch party. "Silom Soi 2 is always popular because it's not pretentious and it gets naturally dirty at times. The music is nothing sophisticated but danceable and enjoyable. Hunky men, sexy dances? They're everywhere in you-know-where kind of places. We enjoy straight, normal parties too especially when there's good music and a good vibe. You know, we don't need to hang out with our own kind all the time; a fun, interesting party is more than enough."
Shhh … it's a secret
