HTC launches first of 2 phones for facebook users
Due to the rapid and high growth of Facebook users in Thailand, HTC (Thailand) yesterday launched one of its two Facebook phones - HTC Cha Cha - with the aim of capturing about 5 per cent of 3 million users who usually access Facebook via mobile phone.
The other phone is HTC Sala.Both HTC Cha Cha and Salsa were globally launched at World Mobile Congress 2011 earlier this year.To emphasise that HTC Cha Cha is designed and developed to be a Facebook friendly phone, HTC (Thailand) held a press conference via its Facebook. It was the first time HTC had conducted an online event with the press.HTC (Thailand) country manager Nattawat Woranopakul said that currently there are around 11 million Facebook accounts in Thailand, of which about 3 million are accessed via mobile phone. The company is spending about Bt10 million to promote this product in Thailand, with most of it as above-the-line marketing budgets.HTC Cha Cha has a touch screen and Qwerty Android smart phone with dedicated Facebook button. It was officially launched in the Thai market yesterday. The largest cellular operator, Advance Info Services (AIS), offered a special promotion to users who subscribe to AIS GPRS for 12 months - they need pay only Bt149 and can use GPRS 200 megabytes per month. "The target group of this product is teenagers who love social networking and need an affordable smart phone that helps them to connect quickly and easily with their friends at the largest social network like Facebook," said Nattawat.This model supports 3G at 900/2100 MHz. It comes in two colours, black and white, at Bt8,900 including 7 per cent VAT.
