Democrat Party secretary general Suthep Thuagsuban on Tuesday dismissed speculation that Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij might replace him, saying such speculation originated from the opposition Pheu Thai Party and designed to drive a wedge in his main coalition party.
"Don't panic and there is no reason for concern since the prime minister himself nominated me for the position of his party's secretary general," he said.
Suthep said he was confident there was no undercurrent within his party to oust him.
He admitted, however, the Democrats might have had some differences but this should not be construed as a party rift.
He said he might not agree with the party majority on the issues related to charter amendments but he was not a lone voice since some 40 to 50 Democrats too were in the minority.
The important point is the prime minister and he remain on the same team to steer the coalition alliance, he said.
