At ease, people, with the Omnia Lite

Samsung's PDA phone is almost too compact, but it keeps you connected anywhere

The Samsung B7300 Omnia Lite is a PDA phone that's compact and light for checking mail on the go and remaining connected to the social networks.

It runs on the Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system with a TouchWiz 2.0 User Interface, which is intuitive and easy to use.

The phone is compact, just 51.88x107x13.3mm and 109 grams.

It has a three-inch screen with 240x400 pixels, which is good enough for reading mail and Web pages.

The phone supports 3G connection to HSDPA 3.6 on the 900 and 2100MHz bands.

It's good that the Omnia Lite comes with Windows Live and Facebook applications, which most people use these days. There are also applications to connect to YouTube to watch videos and Opera browser for browsing Web pages.

The Windows Mobile 6.5 also comes with Office Mobile applications, like Word Mobile, Excel Mobile and PowerPoint Mobile.

I tested the phone on the TrueMove Edge network and connected to my Windows Live Messenger and Facebook accounts with ease.

The TouchWiz 2.0 makes the phone very easy to use. It allows you to customise three home screens with applications you use often.

There's a menu button on the left side of the phone. When you press it, a menu screen pops up with applications organised in four screens, each of which you can turn to by swiping your finger across them. It's good that applications are organised in just one layer of the menu so it's not difficult to locate them.

The phone's audio quality is good. The voice on the other end came across loud and clear.

The Omnia Lite also handled multimedia applications well thanks to its SEC S3C6410 800 MHz processor. It comes with 512 ROM and 128MB of RAM and uses a microSD card as storage.

The test found that it played MP3 files with good sound quality through the provided in-ear type stereo headset and several choices of equaliser settings. However, the Omnia Lite lacks a standard stereo jack for using with your choice of stereo headphones.

The touch screen was responsive, but I found that onscreen keyboard was rather small for a man's fingers due to the compact size of the phone. You should have no problem using a stylus pen.

Its 3.2-megapixel camera also took good-quality pictures.

The Samsung B7300 Omnia Lite retails at Bt10,900 with a free 4GB microSD card.
