Auntie Cheng's eye dropper acidic

The Bt1,000-per-bottle bio fermented liquid known as "Nam Maha Bambat by Auntie Cheng" was tainted by bacteria and acid posing risk of infection and blindness to users, Public Health Minister said yesterday.

The initial lab tests found the liquid and the Bt100-per-bottle "Nam Jairanai Phet" eye dropper to be acidic and contain bacteria while having no anti-biotics, said Jurin Laksanavisit.

Police initially filed charges of manufacturing and selling unregistered medical product, punishable for three years in jail and/or Bt5,000 in fine against Sorawan "Anutie Cheng" Sirisuntharin, 72.

After the Food and Drug Administration representative file a complaint, police would ask Sorawan to hear additional charges of overly-advertising of product and practising medical treatment without permission possibly on Wednesday (January 27). Urging affected people to file complaints, police said if there were more than 10 plaintiffs the charge of public fraud could be added and her assets be seized.
