ACCIDENT AT SKYTRAIN

A woman fell down from train's platform

A woman fell down from train's platform

A woman fell from the platform of a crowded Skytrain station down into the gap beside the track on Wednesday morning at about 7.40, just as a train was drawing into the station.

The station's security stopped the trains at Morchit station, suspended all Skytrain services and cut off the electricity so that the rescue team could go down to help Jiraporn Kietchusak, 49, at the side of the track, which is about one metre lower than the platform.

Jiraporn, a member of Krung Thai bank's staff, suffered a cut on the back of her head, the result of her fall.

Police had to seal off the station, which is the terminal of the Skytrain's northern route and is always packed during peak hours to facilitate the rescue.

Police said they were investigating the accident by examining the security cameras at the station.

However, police have two theories for the accident.

First, they suspect that Jiraporn fell from the platform as a result of people pushing so as to be the first to get on to the train.

Secondly, that Jiraporn may have fainted. She was sent to Ratchawithee hospital for a check up.
