Red shirts demand resignation of Prem, Surayud

Supporters of ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra on Monday demand that Privy Council chief Gen Prem Tinsulanonda and Privy Councillor Gen Surayud Chulanont quit their post to take responsibility for their alleged encroachment of forest reserves.

About 200 red-shirt protesters rallied outside the office of the Privy Council to submit an open letter calling for the council to show its stance over the case of Surayud having a resort residence in Khao Yai Thiang and in the case of Prem allegedly supporting a group of people to encroach upon Khao Soi Dao forest reserve in Chanthaburi.

The red shirts accused officials involved of applying double standards in law enforcement in favour of Prem and Surayud.

None of privy councilors was present during the red shirt rally. The Privy Council will hold its weekly meeting on Tuesday. The council's legal officers said they would forward the letter from the red shirt for acknowledgement.
