Worawi expectes Thailand to defeat lowly Jordan

Worawi Makudi, the Football Association of Thailand, expects nothing less than a victory when the Kingdom play host to Jordan in a crunch Asian Cup qualifier next week.

All four teams in Group E have the opportunity to secure the two available slots for the Cup to be held in Qatar in 2011, with just a single point separating one another.

Thailand currently sit in the third spot with five points, one adrift of Singapore, in the group which is headed by Iran. If the Thais want to go to the finals, they need to take maximum points from the remaining two matches starting with the home tie against bottom side Jordan next Wednesday.

Steve Darby, the assistant to national coach Bryan Robson, yesterday took charge of the training in place of the former England captain, who was away to China on a reconnaissance mission to watch Jordan play the friendly against China.

Darby had a work out with the players in the gym before releasing them to spend the New Year eve with their families. The team would reassemble again tomorrow.

Having watched the Thais score a resounding 30 victory over Zimbabwe on Tuesday, Worawi believes that the country will qualify for the tournament should they overcome Jordan.

"Our play was quite pleasing in the match. But we needed to correct a particular tactical error which I am sure Robson must have noticed. We have time on our side and I am sure we will fix it.

"If we defeat Jordan, our chances of making it to the Asian Cup are pretty good. And, if everything goes our way, I would try to bring in strong sides to our country to help the team get into the rhythm," said Worawi.

Meanwhile, team manager Anucha Nakhasa promised a handsome bonus if the Thai team manage to overcome Jordan.

"Every player is determined and they have strong belief in Robson, who had a successful playing career. If we win the Wednesday's fixture, the players will get bonus as usual. Given the importance of the game, the figure would be higher this time," said Anucha.
