Govt scores 3.8 out of ten for job approval rating


The Abhisit government's job approval rating after one year in office has dropped further from earlier surveys with an average score of 3.87 out of ten, according to Bangkok Poll released on Tuesday.

The survey was conducted on 1,660 respondents from 11 provinces across the country from December 11-14.

Comparing to the scores in previous surveys conducted after its six months and nine months in office, the government's job approval scores were in a steady decline on social issues, qulity of life, foreign affairs, law enforcement and management aspect.

However, scores in its economic performance have surged from 3.95 (after six months) to 4.17 (nine months) to 4.41 (one year performance).

The first three Cabinet members that deliver best performances were Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjjajiva, 36.9 per cent, followed by Education Minister Jurin Laksanawisit, 6.2 per cent and Finance Miniser Korn Chatikavanij came third with 6.1 per cent .

The top five projects that are most favoured by respondents are the 15-year free education, the economic-stimulus project that creates more jobs, Strong Thailand scheme, the project to transfer loan-shark debts to state-owned banks, and the special allowances for senior citizens.

On a scale of ten, Abhisit got 4.7 for job approval scores. In terms of honesty, devotion, protecting public interest, and creating new projects, the PM scored higher when compares to that of after nine months in office. In terms of administration, his score has dropped from that after nine months in office. For decisiveness, Abhisit's score was about the same as the previous survey.



Of total, 59.3 per cent wanted the PM to continue his office, 24.5 per cent wanted him to dissolve House, 6.7 per cent preferred Cabinet reshuffle.

The top three ministers that the respondents wanted out of the Cabinet were Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya, Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban and Transport Minister Sophon Saram.
