Thai Olympic boss questions firing of marksman

National Sports Shooting Association president Pongpol Adireksarn said yesterday that he never wanted marksmen Jakkrit Panichpatikum and Opas Ruangpanyawut at the Laos SEA Games in the first place.

The Thai shooting chief pointed out that Jakkrit and 2004 Asian Games gold medallist Opas were thrown off the team months ago but after appealing in court, were allowed to compete in Vientiane on a court order.

After helping the team to gold in the standard pistol team, Jakkrit was expelled on Saturday following a row with manager Burapa Rueksungket.

Meanwhile Olympic Committee of Thailand secretary-general Charouck Arirachakaran has said the abrupt decision to fire Jakkrit was a breach of regulations.

"Before an athlete is expelled, the head of the delegation has to be informed so he can bring the issue to me for a ruling,'' Charouck said.

Jakkrit hasn't spoken to the media since his press conference on Sunday night, where he said he would blow the whistle on the shooting body after the Games.
