BALDNESS CAN BE A CHOICE

Male pattern baldness is the most common type of hair loss in man. It usually follows a typical pattern of receding hairline and hair thinning on the crown, and is caused by hormones and genetic predisposition.

Other causes of hair loss include the use some drugs, infections and underlying disease such as lupus or diabetes. Depending on your type of hair loss, treatments are available. If a medication is causing your hair loss, your doctor may be able to prescribe a different medicine. And if it is due to genetics, there are two main drugs used to treat male pattern baldness.

n Minoxidil (Rogaine) - a solution that you apply directly to the scalp to stimulate the hair follicles. It slows hair loss for many men, and some men grow new hair. The previous degree of hair loss returns when you stop applying the solution.

n Finasteride (Propecia) - a prescription pill that inhibits the production of the male hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Like minoxidil, you are more likely to have slow hair loss. In general, finasteride is somewhat more effective than minoxidil, but it is recommended only for men and can have sexual side effects.

These topical and oral medicines are FDA approved. And when they are used in combination with laser light therapy, the result is remarkable.

Laser light therapy stimulates the scalp and promotes blood circulation, which creates a healthy environment for your own hair to grow. Areas that are thinning or still losing hair will respond but areas completely bald for many years will probably not. Hair will appear thicker, fuller and healthier if the treated areas respond well to the laser light. However, I'd suggest you see a doctor or dermatologist to find out the cause of your hair loss so that he or she can determine a proper medical treatment for you.
