In love with Setha

The veteran crooner will be back on stage this Saturday singing love songs arranged by Boyd Kosiyabong

Veteran crooner Setha "Toi" Sirachaya, who's known - and loved - for his exquisite voice - returns to the stage on Royal Paragon Hall this Saturday for the latest in his series of love concerts. This time round, fans are in for a real treat as "The Love Song Is Forever" concert sees Setha joining up with famous songwriter Boyd Kosiyabong, who's donning the hat of arranger.

"The concert's concept is to blend Phi Toi's soft voice with great music so that it's rich in sensation without ever being drowned out by a big band. That means careful harmonising of the voice and music with the emotional expression of the singing," says music director Suthee "Kai" Sangsereechon, following consultations with Boyd.

"Our aim is for the audience to bask in the familiarity of his well known songs but also to occasionally surprise them with some different arrangements."

Boyd isn't only the arranger but also a guest singer at the show, which gets underway at 7pm. Also joining Setha on stage are Nop Pornchamni, Vinai Panthurak, and Puthida Sirachaya aka Nong Eve, Setha's daughter.

The concert will feature Setha's hits covering both his days as vocalist with string combo The Impossibles as his string combo and his solo career with Bakery in the '90s. The repertoire includes "Chuen Rak", "Pen Pai Mai Dai", "Khad Ther Khad Jai", "Thalay Mai Khoei Lup", "Sai Chol", "Jai Rak", "Tak Khun Na Noon Non Tai" plus a disco set with Ngua Hai", "Kao Larn Yod Nam Ta" and "Lumduan Thongdee".

"We decided not to separate the concert into different eras but focus more on the tone of the songs, such as swing, bossa, and dance from his disco-influenced numbers in '70s and '80s. There are also several covers of other popular artists' songs.

"The beginning of the concert will feature a long medley and end with danceable songs arranged in disco and rock and roll," reveals the music director, who is mixing Boyd-Nop's album. "I think that the re-arrangement gives different emotions. Take 'Tak Khun Na Noon Non Tai' for example, it now has an upbeat bossa style."
