PRO-THAKSIN MASS RALLY

Red shirted protest postponed indefinitely : Veera

Red shirted leaders on Wednesday decided to postpone indefinitely mass demonstration scheduled to start this weekend, shortly after fugitive ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra suggested it was not the right time to rally.

Veera Musikapong, a red shirted leader, claimed in a press briefing that the postponement was decided after Abhisit government invoked internal security laws in Bangkok.

The government on Tuesday issued the laws in Bangkok ahead of the pro-Thaksin mass rally which are scheduled to start on November 28 until December 14.

"The issuance of the laws clearly indicated that Abhisit government was immature and uneducated," Veera said.

The red shirts then postponed the rally to show responsibility, Veera said.

The red shirted leaders will meet again mid of December to decide the next move.

The postponement came after Thaksin urged his supporters to delay the rally this weekend, saying that it is an inappropriate time as it is close to His Majesty the King's birthday.

Thaksin commented as he addressed a meeting of the opposition Puea Thai members of parliament via video link on Tuesday night.

Thaksin reasoned that the public disagreed with the timing of the protest as it was not the right time. He then urged the Red Shirt leaders to review their plan as a number of Puea Thai MPs also disagreed with the idea.
