CAMBODIA'S SPYING CHARGE

Khmer court to decide Siwarak's bail next month

A Cambodian court will decide early next month whether to grant bail to a Thai engineer arrested for spying flight plans of fugitive ex-Thai prime minister.

The court will deliver the order on December 8 at 7am.

Suvarak Chutipong, 31, has been detained on charges of spying the flight plans. He was arrested on the second day of Thaksin Shinawatra's visit to Phnom Penh.

Suwanna Suwanjuta, director general of rights and freedom protection department, Justice ministry was speaking after travelling to Phnom Penh to talk to Khmer side on the matter.

His lawyer already requested bail for Sivarak on November 23.

Suwanna met Khmer justice minister who told her that Sivarak is detained in a cell with four other inmates despite the fact that a cell usually housed 25 inmates.

Sivarak is not having language problem as he can speak Khmer fluently after having worked in Cambodia for eight years, she said.
