Eco-car projects in progress

Suzuki Motor will start producing compact cars locally in March 2012 at a new plant, while Mitsubishi expects to finalise its investment plan next March.

Bloomberg quoted Suzuki as saying in a statement that its planned factory would assemble 10,000 vehicles in its first year of operation, with half of them to be exported throughout Southeast Asia.

The ¥20-billion (Bt7.49 billion) plant will employ 800.

Meanwhile, Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) president Nobuyuki Murahashi yesterday said his company's eco-car project was awaiting Board of Investment tax privileges and that a final decision on whether to proceed would be reached next March.
