Senate observe a-minute silence for Samak


The Senate on Tuesday observed a-minute silence upon learing of Samak's death.

Democrat MP of Bangkok Wilart Chantarapitak said Samak would be a political model particularly his outspokenness and courage in confronting his rival.

"Khun Samak is a politician who loved to help and mingle with people. He listened to the public's opinions. Thailand has lost an important politician," he said.

Dr Jamaree Chuapetrasophon, medical director of Bamrungrat Hospital said that Samak was admitted to the hospital since September 5 with the final stage of liver cancer.

The doctor said that most of liver cancer patients were usually unconscious when th cancer spread but Samak was conscious most of the time during the treatment and could talk to his family.

"Khun Samak started being unconscious on Tuesday morning," the doctor said.
