First day in office for Lt Gen Santhan

First day in office for Lt Gen Santhan

Acting Metropolitan Police Commissioner Lt General Santhan Chayanont

On his first day in office yesterday, Acting Metropolitan Police Commissioner Lt Gen Santhan Chayanont ordered four 191 unit officers, along with crowd controlling police, to guard each entrance to the Metropolitan Police headquarters.

The entrances' police booths were also removed, enabling the guarding police to more diligently perform their duties of checking visitors and vehicles coming in or out of the premises.

Affirming that the police would obey the law in dealing with demonstrations, he also vowed to have police be more active in drug crackdowns and to curb some wayward officers' unauthorised checkpoints.

He urged all precincts to improve the station's conditions and to be closer to residents in their jurisdiction. He said that all police officers from superintendent rank down must carry a gun and a communication radio to defend themselves and be ready to tackle crime.
