Tambon chief held over killing, theft



The president of tambon Bang Kaew in Nakhon Pathom's Nakhon Chaisi district was arrested yesterday for allegedly killing a tuk-tuk driver on November 3 and fleeing with the victim's gun and gold ornaments weighing over 21 baht.

Police spread the word about the stolen jewellery and were alerted by a gold shop owner in Sam Phran district.

The investigation led to the arrest of Rung Khongkharat, 39, who reportedly confessed to killing Boonma Somsopa, 64, who was the leading member of community police volunteers with whom Rung often had work conflicts.

Rung said he saw Boonma riding a tuk-tuk in the morning of November 3 and tried to get him to talk over their conflicts, but Boonma refused and drew out his gun.

Rung said he shot Boonma before getting away with the |victim's gun and gold ornaments.
